Late-Game Minecraft 237 :: Viewing Window for Axolotls
Continuing work on the base, today we build a big window right next to the stream of axolotls! This will allow us to watch them swimming in the water from the comfort of our new home. We also start a collection of copper blocks at different degrees of oxidation!
Still hearing the wandering trader on our roof, we craft some cut copper blocks! After taking down the scaffolding, we use the cut copper to make a frame for the viewing window. For the corners, we place a polished granite block and slab just like the design on our other windows!
We have a small issue though! The edge of the balcony is right above the slabs that we placed, when it should be further out! We start to rethink the balcony, and remove a few of the blocks that make it up! Eventually, we decide to move the edge of the balcony out by a little.
Starting with the polished diorite above the tuff columns, we have to add an additional stair block so that they still still line up with each other! We sleep for the night before placing a lantern beside the water stream for more light. Then, we add in a diorite slab and step back to see how it looks.
A copper block has oxidised and we clean it with our axe! We craft some copper stairs for the top frame of the window, and also place down some stripped birch wood for the bottom of the window! Taking a short break from designing, we go into the sheep pen to gather some wool.
While we are placing the wool at the back of the copper stairs, we slowly realise that the wool and the birch logs are not aligned! We move the copper stairs out, but now it overlaps with the edge of the balcony! I guess making a curved building is not easy in a game of cubes!
Nevertheless, we still try our best to make it look good! We move the offending andesite stairs away from the copper stairs before taking another look. Once we are happy, we put in the spruce wood floor of the balcony above the wool and the copper!
It's time to add in the glass for the windows! But first, we clear our inventory and shear a few sheep. At our crafting table, we make 40 light grey stained glass panes that are used to form the big window! We cross the stream of axolotls to see how it looks, and are very pleased at the result!
We pick up some deepslate from the chests and harvest some dripstone before going to bed. The next morning, we start work on the second-level wall of the house just above the viewing window! Before that, we collect some sugar canes, melons and pumpkins from our farms!
Grabbing our stonecutter, we head onto the balcony. We add in more spruce wood so that the floor joins up with a new deepslate pillar on the inside! While trying to get up to the balcony again, we use our Elytra and take some collision damage, oops!
Eventually, we decide to use our scaffolding to get up, which is a much safer way. We experiment with the arrangement of stripped spruce logs in the floor design to make sure it looks sufficiently random. Then, we cut some honeycomb from the bee hives!
From the top of a tree, we look at the new base! The copper blocks seem to be oxidising at a faster rate than we were expecting! We craft a new chest for the base and use it to store a collection of copper blocks at different levels of oxidation.
We mine down some of the oxidised cut copper blocks that were used to build the base, before we replace them with their fresh orange counterparts! Then, we start work on the design of the second-level wall above the viewing window.
Picking up some building materials, we fly up to the balcony of the base! We place some tuff around the deepslate pillars. Back at our storage area, we craft some polished deepslate for a beam to connect the inner deepslate pillar to the outer one!
Similar to the design on the ground, we add in some diorite above the tuff blocks and hang our lanterns there! The wall is on a diagonal however, which makes the ceiling design slightly more complicated. We decide to bring the stonecutter up to the balcony so we can craft the diorite blocks that we need!
We are not that happy with the design, but time is running short so I guess it will do for now! We add in the stripped birch logs and white wool to mark the positions of windows before ending the episode. We will probably need to change the design when we add in the other blocks for the ceiling!
