Late-Game Minecraft 233 :: Saved by an Axolotl
While exploring some flooded caves, we are startled by a drowned when it tries to attack us! However, we witness an axolotl putting itself between us and the zombie! It takes some damage and has to play dead, but thanks to its help, we are able to land the killing blow on the drowned!
Before going into the caves, we put some raw copper in the furnaces to turn them into ingots! We head back through the entrance in the ocean floor and mine some deepslate gold ore and diamond ore. We realise it is our first time collecting deepslate gold ore when we unlock a new furnace recipe!
We mine another vein of deepslate gold ore in a nearby wall, finding some deepslate coal and redstone too! Heading through the caves, we find a dark section that we have not explored before! We see some water flowing down from the ceiling and swim up into a flooded cave!
For air and light, we dig out holes in the ceiling and place torches in them! One such hole exposes some gold and copper. We also find a glow squid in the caves! We surface at the bottom of a ravine where a skeleton is patiently waiting for us.
The ravine looks quite dangerous so we will explore it later! We continue making air pockets in the flooded caves where we place our torches. A few axolotls are swimming around the caves! We also hear zombies close to us so there should be some air-filled caves nearby.
We find the spot where the noises are the loudest and dig our way down, finding a unlit cave filled with mobs! It leads to another flooded section! We stop to mine some copper and coal before continuing on, eventually finding ourselves at the bottom of the ocean!
While trying to make an air pocket where we can place a torch, a drowned sneaks up behind us! The drowned gets so close to us that we throw our pickaxe away out of fright! We spot an axolotl that is playing dead, and realise that it had been trying to save us!
We carefully pick up the axolotl in our bucket before swimming around to find our Netherite pickaxe! After what the wild axolotl did for us, the least we could do is to take care of it for the rest of its life. Later, we head back to cave exploration!
So far, the caves that we are exploring do not seem very interesting! Just under the ocean floor, we find a vein of copper but our inventory has become full. We make a hole for our Shulker box which inadvertently causes the gravel ocean floor to collapse, oops!
It is quite hard to mine the copper ore without light, but we eventually drain out the water from the area and place down a torch! Afterwards, we head back to the caves for more exploration. We find ourselves in a dry cave that already has a torch within!
Finding nothing much in the cave, we hear a zombie lurking around and swim around to find it! As we surface in an air pocket, the zombie catches us by surprise! Fortunately, we are protected well by our diamond armour.
Since the caves are so uninteresting, we decide to make our way out! We are a little lost though. We make our way to another unlit cave segment where we snipe a creeper with our bow! Recognising the rest of the caves as somewhere that we have been to before, we make sure it is fully lit before leaving!
After dealing with some creepers, we hear a skeleton and a slime bouncing around somewhere in the walls! We mine one block of stone and immediately find the cave where we had found an amethyst geode yesterday. We still hear many mobs in the walls though!
We dig a tunnel towards the noises, being a little afraid but still very curious. Finding some deepslate, we break it with our pickaxe to find a creeper waiting in a cave below! We deal with the mobs from a safe height before falling into the cavern.
As we follow the cave upwards, we see a creeper in the distance! Normally we would use our bow to take it out, but our bow is running very low on durability! At the end of the cave, we claim our grand prize of five copper ore blocks!
Still hearing a slime bouncing around, we mine out a small tunnel and break into a familiar cave! We recognise this cave due to its scattered deposits of dripstone. Then, we head backwards to light up more dark spots.
Emerging from the water in the ravine that we had found at the start of the episode, we are assaulted by many creepers falling from above! We deal with the creepers before lighting up the walls of the ravine. The sounds of a zombie alerts us to more creepers waiting on the ledge above!
After shooting down the creepers, we place a few more torches down before ending the episode. We use our Elytra to get to the upper ledges of the ravine, which is quite risky but we pull it off! The ravine should be quite safe now, but it still holds nothing much of interest besides some copper ore!
