Learn ATC | FAA VFR Procedures | Entering & Exiting Class B Airspace🛩️
Tonight we continue our FAA Conversion journey with Lesson 3, focusing on how to safely and confidently operate in and around Class B airspace using visual navigation and sectional chart awareness — all under FAA regulations.
We’ll build on our previous lessons by learning how to interpret sectional charts in more detail, plan routes using visual reference points and VORs, and navigate through busy controlled airspace without Flight Following.
Our focus will be on real-world FAA procedures for entering and exiting Class B airspace, understanding airspace requirements, communication expectations, and maintaining separation without continuous radar service.
Practical Flights:
Two point-to-point VFR legs using the WINGS program:
A VFR flight from Quonset State (KOQU) to Boston Logan (KBOS), following WINGS VFR 3 – Entering Class B Airspace
A follow-up leg from Boston Logan (KBOS) to Nashua (KASH), covering WINGS VFR 4 – Exiting Class B Airspace
We’ll use SkyVector for sectional planning, Navigraph for airport and taxi charts, and practice real FAA phraseology with VATSIM ATC or SayIntentions depending on availability.
This stream builds directly on our previous sessions and reinforces everything learned so far — with added complexity in airspace awareness, chart navigation, and non-radar VFR ops.
It’s all about understanding where you are, where you’re allowed to be, and how to communicate clearly when moving through the busiest airspace in the U.S.
Be sure to checkout our Ground School Manual and sectional chart viewer — we’ll be chart-heavy tonight!
