This is a review of Lego City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. Lego City Undercover is essentially PG rated Grand Theft Auto, on the Nintendo Switch.

You play as Chase McCain, a police officer returning to LEGO City after a long absence, a dangerous criminal Rex Fury has escaped from Albatross Island. The story is filled with every possible police movie/game cliché imaginable, you’ll play through fifteen chapters.

The large Lego city acts as the hub world, with the actual missions taking place in self-contained areas, many areas are blocked off in the city, with tantalising collectables just out of reach. To get them, you’ll need to play through the main game to unlock the various ability types, before returning later.

Over the course of the game, you’ll gain access to new abilities and outfits that will allow you to uncover new areas and secrets . Visually, this looks better than the Wii U version. Everything looks more crisp and brighter.

The big change here on Switch, though, is the ditching of dual-screen play. New in this release is a two-player co-op mode. The game hasn't been redesigned or restructured for this addition, as Player 2 will simply play as another Chase by default and all content stays the same.

It’s the exact same content as the Wii U version only it can be tackled with two of you brick-smashing your way to success instead of one. The load times are absolutely ludicrous, there’s some noticeable slow down when playing co-op and you can’t skip any of the cutscenes.

LEGO City Undercover runs at 1080p. The framerate is very choppy when the system is undocked, and when playing two player mode it drops drastically as well. Lego City Undercover for Switch doesn’t offer any new content from the Wii U version, but if you never played the Wii U version, than this is an easy choice for Switch owners.
