830This is a review of Disgaea 5 for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. In Disgaea 5, you lead Killia on quest for revenge against Void Dark where you meet other demons and overlords looking to take down Void Dark, an overlord who seeks to enslave the countless Netherworlds
I imported my version, because it features complete translation in English. The switch version includes all of the DLC from PS4, which is very nice. It is absolutely jam packed with content. Just like other switch games, this supports both tablet and TV play, and it works great on the go.
Disgaea 5 is a great looking game, no matter how you play it on the Switch. Whether in handheld mode or on TV, it looks incredibly sharp with some nice colors and nifty looking character art. Disgaea 5 features short and concise battles that you can easily play anywhere, and it feels like it truly was made to be played on the go.
Disgaea 5 delivers hours upon hours of fun characters, beautiful visual flair and one of the most accessible games in the series. Now forgive me, I am not too familiar with a lot of tactical rpg game elements, this honestly was a bit overwhelming for me at first. Disgaea 5 is simply not accessible to people who are unfamiliar with the basics of tactical RPGs, myself included.
The gameplay of Disgaea 5 can be best compared to games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. You put units on the playing field, move them across a grid and choose the action that will severely damage your opponent. Every character also has their own special attacks, which charge and fire quickly. But you can’t take too long the enemies are pretty spry and will fuck you up.
When your allies are being attacked, each character's revenge meter will fill until you hit the cap. At that point, that character's statistics are increased exponentially, and some can unleash a powerful special called an overload. There is also a squad system. You set up squads, attach party members to them and designate a leader. Characters who are part of a squad grant special bonuses ranging from everyone getting a portion of the squad leader's EXP to allowing you to begin the stage as a giant.
You can tweak your many party members and their gear in an overwhelming number of ways, and of course, pretty much all those ways involve a lot of grinding.. there are some things such as the Item World, which allows you to level up your gear by entering an endless amount of battles. The difficulty of these stages increases the further that you progress, and this makes your equipment much more powerful as a result.
