153The start of the GDI campaign has quite a lot of optional missions for you to undertake. While not essential to the progression of the plot, they allow you the opportunity to do a secondary task so that the main goal in the area can be a little easier. These missions often have you acting without a base of operations from where you can replenish your forces, meaning you have to take care of every single unit you're given.
Knowing when to engage and with what forces will ensure that you get the most out of the scant resources you have available, but by the far the most important unit in said missions is the medic. Armed only with his medical supplies and a sound effect from Lands of Lore, he can restore your foot soldiers to full health over and over again, allowing them to fight for far longer than they normally would. Care must be taken, however, for the medic cannot heal their own wounds. Only a second medic can do that and we've been given only one here.
