Let's Play Dimension of the Machine Remastered #15: Rematch Time
All the runes have been acquired. The machine is now functional, opening up a portal to the final boss of the campaign: Cthon. He's waiting for us in his fortress and he's armed with a limitless supply of molten rocks that deal a lot of damage to you. What's more, Cthon now has minions guarding the place and no lightning trap for us to trigger.
If only we had our own, portable lighting weapon that we could fire into its face and a limitless supply of ammunition for it provided to us by Cthon because... reasons?
Hey, nobody said Cthon was smart.
So, we've reached the end of Quake and my, was it a super fun experience to play through all these campaigns. From the original released in the 90s to this one that was made for the remaster, it was a joy to go through them and makes me a little sad I didn't play more of this game when it originally out. The gameplay is as tight and frantic as ever, the enemies a challenge and the level design fantasticly eerie. The atmospheric music does a great job of painting the picture of the dreary, dark worlds we're forced to battle through with a plethora of mostly familiar but very satisfying weapons. If there's one thing I would've liked to of seen in the newer campaigns, it was more new things: new enemies, new weapons, new power-ups, all of which would've spiced up the gameplay even more. That's a minor complaint, however, one that does little to detract from the wonderful experience that playing this game is. If you like FPS games and haven't played this one, I recommend it.
As for what's to come after this, let's just say that there's going to be a huge tonal shift from the sinistey to the utterly silly. There's also going to be a genre shift from FPS to adventure and while there's certainly enemies to defeat, they're going to be far easier to beet... hopefully.
See you next let's play!
