Of the many problems that Edna has at present, that she can’t remember anything about herself or her past is by far the biggest. Though we don’t know for sure, it’s been hinted at by Babbit that the reason we can’t remember anything is due to the treatments Dr Marcel has been giving us, but why would he want to wipe our memory? Does he have a diabolical scheme or is he truly trying to help us forget something terrible? The only hope we have of avoiding losing our memories forever is to keep trying to escape, but we’ve reached a stumbling block in the form of a ventilation grate that we can’t unscrew… at least not yet.

This is where tempomorphing comes in. Harvey is able to transport both himself and Edna into the fragments of her memory when presented with the trigger to a significant moment in her life. The goal of this exercise is to awaken those memories within Edna to both help her escape and to learn more about the past she can barely remember. In this instance, we’re trying to remind her how she was able to unscrew things without a screwdriver and we’re able to control both Edna and Harvey separately. Harvey has mechanics unique to him and while it takes some getting used to, it’s a fine addition that adds another layer to the puzzles you need to solve. It also means we can get even more of the game’s wonderful dialogue, something I’m not going to complain about in the least.
