
Let's Play Quake Remastered #09: Attaining the Second Rune
If you think about it, Quake doesn't have many unique enemies. This is something that it shares with Doom but it's not necessarily a bad thing. For one, having a limited pool of enemies makes it easier to maintain a certain aesthetic as well as letting the team focus more on each individual foe, both artistically and mechanically. That Quake effectively has two different pools of foes – one for the Earth bases and another for the strange, mythosian fortresses beyond the teleporter - make this even more pronounced.
Speaking of enemies, there's one we haven't yet met and it's a foe I have absolutely no experience with at all. It's rarely used and rightly so, for its power is significant despite its very slow speed. Taking on this new enemy is going to require me learning some new tactics and quite quickly, for the scant few that guard the second rune prove to be far more of a problem than I anticipated them being.
