Let's Play Red Rogue (P5)
And in this video we reach the second issue I've found in the game: backtracking. Now yes, it is entirely reasonable to only aim for "whatever you find on the first pass" after a while, but...well...like...this is a game geared towards people who play roguelikes, after all. There are FAR too many of us who are entirely obsessive about those 100% completions.
Now, the way I see it, there are two methods to change this up:
1. Add something that encourages you to descend/ascend over time (something like Spelunky's ghost)
2. Allow for some kind of auto-tracking of enemies with the search function
The first one might not be very feasible, especially since it seems like you have to retrace your steps later on, but it at least acts as a "hunger meter", admittedly an important aspect of the roguelike (that is, a grinding countermeasure). Second option I like more, because it means you aren't endlessly chasing enemies that are smart enough to keep themselves out of your screen, which is what I assume is happening. You can hear those stupid devils if you're paying attention!
But really, in spite of these faults, it is an entertaining experience. If anything, I'm just becoming more openly critical of the games I play.
