Let's Play Spec Ops: The Line | Chapter 9: Alone | Delivering Water | Protecting Delta
1Welcome back to Spec Ops: The Line, a soft reboot of the Spec Ops franchise that changes up the formula, turning a series that was originally meant to be a tactical shooter into a narrative masterpiece. While the game still has remnants of its Tactical Shooter roots, the gameplay focuses far more on the story of Captain Martin Walker, who enters a war-torn Dubai in order to rescue a man he admires, John Konrad, after an evacuation mission involving the 33rd Infantry goes awry. What they find waiting for them in Dubai sets the stage for an explorative and less-mentioned side of warfare that is seldom seen or talked about.
Teaming up with Riggs, Delta goes out on an escort mission, protecting the trucks full of all the remaining water in Dubai. As was expected, the 33rd tried to assault them at every turn. While Delta fought tooth and nail to save the only means of sustenance in the place, Konrad's men eventually succeeded and all the water in Dubai was lost.
Meanwhile, Walker got separated from Adams and Lugo. He awakens in the middle of a flaming wreckage, only to find all the water about him having gone to waste.
Moving on, he heard Riggs's voice and found him pinned underneath a burning tanker. Riggs explained how the entire plan was to goad Konrad into attacking the trucks and getting rid of all of Dubai's water supply. That way, the people of Dubai would die cut off from the rest of the world and nobody would be any wiser about what actually transpired here. The US would be free of all blame.
As his dying wish, he requested that Walker not let the fire consume him and put a bullet in his head instead. Walker complied.
He then established contact with Adams and Lugo and found them taking enemy fire. He rushed to the mall to protect them and after a long and drawn-out battle, they finally managed to regroup again.
