Let's Play Spec Ops: The Line | Chapter 6: The Gate | White Phosphorus
Welcome back to Spec Ops: The Line, a soft reboot of the Spec Ops franchise that changes up the formula, turning a series that was originally meant to be a tactical shooter into a narrative masterpiece. While the game still has remnants of its Tactical Shooter roots, the gameplay focuses far more on the story of Captain Martin Walker, who enters a war-torn Dubai in order to rescue a man he admires, John Konrad, after an evacuation mission involving the 33rd Mountain Battalion goes awry. What they find waiting for them in Dubai sets the stage for an explorative and less-mentioned side of warfare that is seldom seen or talked about.
Summiting the stairs that lay ahead of them, they immediately spot what is supposedly the gate and eliminate the overwatch, only to discover the insurmountable sea of foes that lay ahead of them.
At this point in time, their only choice to make their way through the sea of an army was to use the White Phosphorus mortar they had in the balcony. Walker deployed an aerial reconnaissance device and got to targeting various parts of the army through the electronic guidance system provided on the recon device.
It took a bit of effort and multiple rounds of White Phosphorus, but once they had scorched the very earth that lay before them and cleansed everything that moved upon it with fire, Walker & Company descended from their high perch and walked through the wake of destruction that they had just created.
Burning bodies everywhere, coupled with people begging for mercy in their final breaths. The only thing to do at this point would be to put them out of their misery.
It wasn't until they reached a man still breathing with his face burned off that they realised that 'The Gate' was actually a place where the 33rd had brought the civilians that they had kidnapped from the Nest.
In their horrid realisation, they turned to face the consequences of their reckless actions, devoid of the complete understanding of the picture as they gazed upon the scorched and eviscerated carcases of the very civilians that they were trying to save.
Fuelled with a newfound vengeance and prioritising rationality over emotion, Walker decided that they should get out of here as soon as possible before reinforcements arrive.
Fighting their way out of their personal errors and eliminating any trace of the remaining soldiers of the 33rd, they try to put their sins behind them and make their way to Konrad, hoping that the Lt. Col. can help them.
