Let's Play Super Mario RPG - Part 25: Beans, Beans, They're Good For Your Heart
0We come to Bean Valley, one of the last places still on terra firma. It's not a terribly long level, but the lower part is full of bees, flowers, and Piranha Plants. Actually, there are five Piranha Plants here that are optional, but defeating each allows you access to a pipe that may contain items. There is a boss, Smilax, which is basically a large Piranha Plant with multiple smaller heads. It has some pretty good magic attacks, including one infamous one called Petal Blast that turns your entire party into mushrooms. Do not go into this battle without at least one character equipped with an accessory that blocks status effects, preferably the Princess (her healing powers can nullify status effects on the other two). It is weak to ice-based attacks, but there are only two in the game anyway, one of which requires a lot of MP and the other of which is a finite and very rare resource. Upon defeating Smilax, we gain entry to the upper part of Bean Valley.
