All of the Mavericks are defeated and all powerups have been found, so now it's time to take on the fortress. I find the fortress stages in X2 to be the easiest of the SNES games, although some parts can still be troublesome enough. The first one isn't terribly long, and the only real threats in the stage are the crushing wall segments, particularly the last one (you have to be pretty quick to get through there without getting smushed). The boss battle is with Violen, and it is actually almost a complete rehash of the first fight with him; the only difference this time is that there are a few extra solid blocks in the battlefield that teleport randomly, which hurt Violen more than they help him. I'm also more powered up this time around, so...yeah. His weakness is still the Bubble Splash, but I kinda forgot to use it on him...and besides, that weapon requires getting closer to him that I'd like.
