The last Maverick looks out at us from the stage select screen, ready to fall like the seven before him. This is Magna Centipede, who resides in the Central Computer stage. The stage is shorter and easier than I remember it being, but it's still fairly tricky, considering it includes two different midbosses, some obstacles that are nearly impossible to avoid, and two items that both require the charged Speed Burner trick. The stage music is called "Red Alert", and it's fitting, because a lot of the stage involves not setting off alarms that will activate some obstacles or sensors. Magna Centipede himself can teleport to one of four possible places on the floor or ceiling (those are the only places he'll reappear as far as I know), can break off pieces of his tail to swarm you, and can throw a set of three homing Magnet Mines at you. The attack of his that you most want to avoid, though, is the one where he magnetically pulls you to his tail and poisons you. This will affect you depending on whether or not he has successfully poisoned you already. The first time he does it, it renders you unable to charge your shots. The second time, it makes you unable to dash. The third time, it causes your jump height to decrease. After that, no additional effects occur as far as I know. His weapon is the Magnet Mine, which shoots a small mine that you can make move up and down with the controller buttons (the charged version creates a small dark orb that I think draws enemies to itself). This being the last of the eight Mavericks, the fortress appears and the stage select music changes. With all the Mavericks defeated and all the powerups found, next it will be time to take on the X-Hunters' fortress!
