Now that we're focusing more on expanding into new territories we're encountering more missions where we face either mutants or the reticulans. The latter is far more dangerous then the former as they keep up with your tech advancements better then the mutants do. That in itself is quite a feat considering the fact that they've been reduced to near animal-level intelligence but as a gameplay mechanic it keeps them dangerous.

The mutants sadly don't get that level of danger advancement. Only the morelman have the ability to hold weapons and they don't tend to advance half as quickly in the technology level of them compared to the other factions in the game. The rest of the mutants are all as they were at the beginning of the game except now you've got a heavily equipped and highly trained group of soldiers instead of a squad of fresh recruits.
