The Guardian is drawing on energy from each of the worlds we've visited through the gem, using it for his own ends. Fortunately we're now equipped with the scepter from Altara and we can use it to sever the connection the Guardian has with these worlds, weakening his efforts in the process. As Altara put it in each world there's a place where the Guardian that is the focal point of his magical presence there and for the most part it's pretty obvious in each world where that is.

All we need to do is go to each world and sever the connection. This means quite a bit of backtracking but fortunately we won't be in most of the worlds we've already visited for long. Except the Ice Caves.

We might be in the Ice Caves for a while.
