Let's Play Ultima VIII #37: Solving the Problem and the Final Test

The Avatar has a hunch as to who took Xavier's healing focus and we also know who can tell us if that's the case, but sadly the game let us down through some iffy event coding which prevented us from progressing the plot easily. After some off-screen experimentation I've figured out the exact route you need to take through the various character's dialogues to make the game progress, something that should've been a lot easier then it ended up being. While I'd like to think that this has all been a giant misunderstanding and that everything will be figured out quickly and without any upset, we all know that that's not going to be the case. I can only hope that things won't get worse through us uncovering exactly what happened.
Regardless, once that's sorted we'll have only one more test to pass before we meet the third of the four titans of Pagan, Stratos. From what everyone's said of her, she seems to be a caring and compassionate entity who wishes only to heal the ills of the people of Pagan. All she asks of her followers is for devotion, a small price to pay for the healing they can do some would say. All is not right here however, though you'd have to look deep to see it. It's my belief that the supposed benevolence of the titans is not what it appears, that Hydros was the most honest and open about her intentions when we freed her; they seek to destroy Pagan and kill everyone and only through the Avatar growing stronger then them and defeating them do the people of the island have a chance at a bright future.
But at what price will that peace come? How much suffering will the Avatar inflict in the painful process of undoing the damage already done to the land and saving it from eventual destruction, all so that we can escape the world and stop the Guardian? All I know is that things are going to get quite a bit worse before they get better.
