Let's Play Ultima VIII #41: Sorcery 101
156The Avatar may be a disciple of Bane but we're a long way from becoming an acolyte. Numerous tests lay before us in our ascent within the order of sorcerers, first and foremost a test of our ability to cast sorcery. Each of the four schools of magic in Pagan are very unlike one another in spell preparation and out of all of them sorcerery is the most complicated. It requires not just the right reagents but that they're also in the correct location on the casting pentacle, as well as the right candles in the right places and a suitable focus that can contain the magic you infuse it with if you're successful. While there's a lot more effort needed to prepare the spells the reward for doing so more then makes up for it, so we're going to have to make sure we get it right.
To do that we're going to need to do some light reading and by that, I mean we're going to devour all the tomes in the enclave's library about spellcasting until we know it as best we can. It pays to be prepared after all. We should also explore the rest of the enclave and see how everyone has taken the news of Vardion's death, something that'll have sent ripples through the close-knit community. One thing's for sure, Gorgrond is bound to very unhappy and considering his attitude towards us when Vardion was alive that can only mean trouble.
