A do-good detour takes us to Singer's Ridge, where some kids talk of a strangeness infesting the town. Luckily, it turns out it's the type vulnerable to buckshot, so we chalk that off before getting the plot trinkets. The Wellspring Text proves the more complicated one, as that's hidden behind that gate we found earlier at the Broken Steppe. Essex has kindly popped it open for us, but getting the book itself requires all five brands - no matter what state the others are in.

Luckily, all our past selves are alive and well, and two are even following us, so this starts off quickly enough. Across Rivers is off mediating a dispute with the trappers, however, and we soon find that negotiations have gone poorly...
