Let's Play Ys 8 Episode 8: Kid Gloves are coming off
1Here we are boys and girls the first real dungeon of the game.
Towering Coral Forest has a lot of enemies and a multi layered structure with even a handful of secret collectibles and shortcuts.
I love this place not only for the amazing music but also the challenge offered. Sure it's an early dungeon but it's far from easy. Though if you're just running through the first part can be pretty straightforward.
Once you reach the midpoint of the dungeon you'll find two more survivors and a save point. Kiergard acts as a doctor and Sir Carlan is completely useless. He won't even help with clearing out rubble which is why I haven't bothered with that obstacle that required 8 castaways.
After all that is said and done we encounter our next boss fight and... well this game has 40 boss fights in it so sadly some of them gotta be stinkers.
This game has a handful of meh bosses and 5 stinkers in it and Serpentius is the first of the stinkers. A giant turtle wouldn't be too bad but many of his attacks can hit you multiple times which will kill you on higher difficulties and hey a hard fight doesn't make a boss bad but this guy has some janky ass hitboxes on his attack which just makes it not fun. This guy is one of the reasons I'm not playing this on nightmare or inferno.
After he's defeated you can fish in the battle arena and more importantly you'll find a pirate corpse that gives us our first upgrade. The climbing gloves allow you to climb up ivy and will help with backtracking and extra goodies (told ya this was a metroidvania)
