Let's Play ZAPM (P1)

So my "next project" planned was to update and improve upon the DoomRL tutorials. Turns out that I need to play a whole bunch again before I get to the point where I can make them nice! I probably won't post any of them until after 7DRL 2012 is finished, and they'll be my "other" video series anyway, so in the meantime we should probably get moving on another game.
ZAPM is meant to be a sci-fi Nethack, and I can already see why, because it feels a lot like Nethack's early game so far. Granted, I haven't actually died yet, so that's different, but the vast array of items, the shops, the many stats that you want maxed as soon as reasonably possible...very NetHack indeed. A lot of people would say that's a bad thing, but NetHack did have a lot of great ideas in it, and if ZAPM managed to capitalize on the good ideas while leaving out the bad, more power to it.
