Corridors are a tricky challenge in Doom. They limit your movement, making it easier for hitscan enemies to connect with their shots while making dodging projectiles harder. The really narrow ones make for fantastic locations for traps, flanking you with foes appearing from a secret place and forcing you to choose between pressing on into the unknown or turning to face these new opponents.

You actually don't need a lot of space either side of you to dodge projectiles, though pinpoint strafing is needed and knowledge of how far is far enough to not get hit, something I'm still not the best at after all this time.
