For quite a while now, an alien base has been on the geoscape and I haven’t done anything about it. The points that its earned for the alien’s score have easily been ignored alongside our many successes in taking down UFOs and though the supply ship missions also net them points, I’m not concerned about them either. In the back of mind however is the ever-present fact that I’ll need to deal with it at some point and not just to get rid of it; the reason I tried to take on the battleship was for the chance of capturing a commander for interrogation, something that I’d forgotten wasn’t possible with muton vessels.

We need a commander to complete the game and there are only two sources of them that I know of, battleships and alien bases. We can’t shoot down battleships yet and taking on landed ones is a daunting prospect even if they aren’t manned by psionic aliens, leaving the one base we know of as the best chance X-COM has at capturing a commander for their research. Even with all our equipment this isn’t a mission to take lightly and I must go in with the mindset I do every mission, that one wrong move can turn it into a disaster.
