In this video I’ll be showing off the rest of the alternate play modes that I know of, hidden or otherwise, save one that I’m going to save for another time. One of those modes is very much a game in its own right and one that I ended up playing almost as much as the main game itself, it was that enjoyable. Suffice to say that Tyrian 2000 offers a lot more then you’d think it does at a glance, hidden away just beneath the surface of what is already a quite awesome and silly experience.

Tyrian 2000 is a game I have a lot of fond memories of and nostalgia in spades and coming back to it, I haven’t been dissapointed. The gameplay is fantastic, the graphics have aged wondrously, the music has been stuck in my head ever since I played it and the sheer variety of different game modes gives the game fantastic longevity. The plot is super silly and frankly can be ignored as it’s not important whatsoever but those who take the time to uncover it will find something that’s very tongue-in-cheek and full of cliché s that just go to further show how light-hearted the game’s meant to be. The higher difficulties can get monstrously difficult but I don’t play the game like that; I play it whenever I want to sit back, enjoy some awesome music and blow up every spaceship I see with overwhelming firepower. In that regard and many others Tyrian 2000 succeeds wonderfully. If there was any complaint to be levelled at the game, it would be that the fifth chapter does seem somewhat disconnected from the rest, both in terms of art and story, but it’s still just as fun as the rest of it. If you’re a fan of scrolling shooters I encourage you to give this one a look if you haven’t already, but only if you’re prepared to have the music stuck in your head forever. It’s not as bad as it sounds, I can assure you.

So what’s next? I can tell you that there definitely won’t be any scrolling shooters for quite a while as it’s not a genre I like that much but I do think another relatively short game is in order, one from a genre that I don’t often play. In fact, it’s on a system often play either, one I don’t have much nostalgia with save for a few games I experienced with my youth. Whatever I decide to play, I think it’s time to give Trent Hawkins the retirement from saving the universe that he deserves, don’t you?

See you next let’s play!
