The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out in 1998 and it was immediately a big hit. For the very first time we could wander freely through a big open world on a Nintendo console and explore every corner on our own without much restrictions.

This has appealed to many people including kids who were eager to try this new game out. While Super Mario 64 kept you in a relatively safe world to explore as a child, Ocarina of Time didn't spare you. Dark elements became more frequent as you progress through the Kingdom of Hyrule and the difficulty also rose significantly with harder dungeons and temples.

The game was targeted at teens, but that didn't stopped many of us young 90's kids to pursue Ganondorf. The game was rated 7+ in many European countries, but I do wonder if these people who certify games for age restriction purpose actually knew about the darker elements of this game?

Nevertheless many of us had a great adventure, but not many could complete Ocarina of Time until we were much older and made a return to the game to finish things off.
