National Geographic rated tram line 2 operated by GVB from Amsterdam as one of their top 10 most scenic tram rides in the world. The list was published in their magazine in 2010 and also online, but the reason to why was a bit underwhelming to say the least. It passes by numerous tourist attraction, but didn't go into details. It's true that tram line 2 passes by the main attractions of Amsterdam and the trams are often filled with tourists. However, there are many more things to see along the line. - The Magna Plaza shopping mall (former main post office) is open 7 days a week, but the opening times varies at the moment. Afternoon should be the best bet.
- The garden of the Rijksmuseum is only open during the Summer months and is free of charge.
- The heritage tram line from Amsterdam station to Amstelveen is run by Electrische Museumtramlijn Amsterdam (EMA) and usually operates every Sunday from Spring till Autumn. During the Summer season the foundation also runs a city tour with vintage trams.
- The village of Sloten can also be reached by bus 195 operating between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Lelylaan.
