A digital cat wakes you up. It's look 517. Your memory is shot, and there's someone on another ship that's looking to clear a space exactly where your ship is, and combat begins.

That's how Cobalt Core starts, throwing you right into the core loop of this roguelike deckbuilder (yes another one). You craft a deck of cards based on your crew, each having their own specialty and play-style. You use those abilities to take on other ships of various constructions, abilities, and health bars (they are always bigger). You work your way through the systems until you finally get to the Cobalt core, wherein you have to fight a massive final ship. Defeating that ship is not the end though. There's a voice there that can restore a bit of someone's fractured memory... and then the loop starts over.

I will say: I'm not big on deck-building games. They are not typically my cup of tea but (at least so far) Cobalt Core doesn't seem as complex, and is a lot more approachable. This is helped along by the writing of the characters (who are adorable), the music (which is a certified list of bops), and the whole visual aesthetic. I'm planning on going the distance with this game in my own time, that's for sure.
