It's the Indie Game Wednesday roundup for Wednesday, Dec 8th, 2021.

Loot River is just... neat. It's a Roguelike top-down, combat...thing where you navigate tetris-shaped rafts through a perpetual river (there are layers to the river but that's beside the point) where you battle all kinds of baddies. There's weapons! There's equipment! There's levelling up with stat increases! There's death! A lot of death! There's a lot going on with loot river, and even though I was not very good at it in my time with the demo, I am very much paying attention to this game's release.

Theropods is an Point and Click adventure set way back in the day when humans and dinosaurs apparently cohabitated. Or at least existed at the same time. You spend the entire demo trying to catch a dino to eat it, so maybe cohabitate isn't the right word. Regardless, there's no actual dialog, just some sweedish chef-style mumbles and gesturing. It's an interesting setup, but I found it more frustrating than novel. I love the art and overall style, I just hope the mechanics don't get in the way of the game.

SHUT IN is another point and click adventure game where you are just trying to get out of your house, and boy oh boy are things Not Okay with you or the house. It's a horror game, but it's not about things that jump out at you, so much as you combatting your own mental illness, which has manifested itself in your home. It's... an interesting experience, especially if you've dealt with a depression voice in your own head. It doesn't get too dark (thankfully) but the narrator of the story constantly belittling your decisions and trying to get you to give up all the time... well, it can hit a sore spot. A very interesting game, but one I'd say approach with caution if you're Not Okay right now.
