Let's Try: Starship Troopers: Extermination

I'm honestly at a bit of a loss for words. Starship Troopers: Extermination is, as near as I can tell, exactly the kind of Starship Troopers game that people have wanted since Starship Troopers games have existed. It's a fantastic FPS IP. You are a soldier tasked with some jobs: Liberate this area, collect these materials, defend this position, escape. The game loop is short, effective, and satisfying. The visuals are spot on, the music is perfect, and the bugs... oh my god the bugs. Wonderfully done.
Honestly my only real criticisms of the game are as follows, and all can currently be explained away by the fact that this game is Early Access:
- my frames spill all over the floor during the evac. There's just so much going on
- I don't see the appeal of the assault trooper. I understand they can jump but... so what?
- There is only one map
- There are only two mission types
Now I'll admit that I've not tried any of the harder modes, where some other things (like your squad assignment) come into play yet, but I plan do. Perhaps there is more depth to be found there in this EA release.
That being said, I am thoroughly enjoying myself in this game as it is.
