Some studies have reported a link between reading-related skills and musical rhythmic abilities, highlighting the potential of music-based intervention methods for reading development. A tablet-based rhythm-assessment app was developed and deployed in kindergarten classrooms in New England with a battery of pre-literacy assessments. Results from over a hundred children indicate a significant positive association between rhythm discrimination and early literacy skills. Ola Ozernov-Palchik discusses the potential application of the app in cross-cultural and neuroscience research.
