In this stream I wanted to talk about some fallout from the recent Gamerz Tek 8-Bit HD Review, specifically comments some people have made regarding my lack of Everdrive testing. I don't own an Everdrive, but there's more to it than this.

There are TONS of these SD2NES, they all get called Everdrives just like Kleenex, and each one works differently. There's many out there and for just the N8 it's $125. And that's just 1. Plus one for the SNES, Genesis, Master System, N64, the list goes on and on. I don't have the money to do that, sorry. Maybe if things pick up via Streamlabs, PayPal, Super Chat or Patreon donations I might consider it. But right now if I need to play a game I don't have a copy of I have my Wii, Wii U, 3DS XL, NES Classic, SNES Classic, Retro-bit Super Retro-Cade, laptop and more. My need for an Everdrive is non-existent

I actually think Everdrives are an important piece of maintaining gaming history. I also think there needs to a come to Jesus moment where using ROMS for games that have been out of print for 20, 25, 30 years become public domain for the benefit of EVERYONE. Right now using an Everdrive, or any ROM for that matter, when you don't own the physical cart is deemed to be piracy, it just is. This needs to change.

I meant what I said, I don't own an Everdrive because I have multiple other ways to do basically the exact same thing. I have ROMS and Emulators loaded on every one of those systems I referenced above (forgot my nVidia shield TV too FWIW). The value to me isn't there. I can by 6, 8, 10 actual carts for what an Everdrive would cost. As the person who is the driver on trips the portability I am looking for is being able to play the system in another room off TV. That is 99.5% of how I will enjoy this system in a portable mode. In the event I would travel with the system, like heading back to Germany, I'd take the 500in1 cart I showed and like 1-2 games that I know I can play repeatedly and enjoy.
