[Livestream archive] Final Fantasy 1 (MSX2) - Speedrun highlights (Total time: 8:06:15)
Edited highlights of my "speed"run of the MSX2 version of FF1. The full time of this run was just over 8 hours. I tried to edit this video down as much as I could. Really!
My goal in making this edit was to highlight the differences in strategy between this run and the Famicom/NES version, and to document my mistakes and time losses for future runners, so it assumes that viewers are already familiar with the routing for other versions. People who don't know the game already will probably be confused by the editing.

Notes from the full video:
-------------------------------
Well, this is a run, so now I can say I did it.
As far as I know, this is the only speedrun of this version that has been recorded thus far. It's not a particularly good run. Apart from resetting twice in Earth Cave and once in Temple of Chaos, I went the wrong way several times and mismanaged my equipment a bit. So there's lots of room for improvement, for someone. Probably not me.
The key difference between MSX and Famicom is that MSX has a game-breaking bug where monsters' elemental weaknesses are ignored, and their elemental resistances are treated as weaknesses. That means that magic is extremely effective during the endgame. So my strategy is heavily focused on spamming as much magic damage as possible.
Note that this is done using a flash-based virtual disk drive, so load times are almost instantaneous. That may affect how this run compares to any future runs played on physical floppies.
Played on a Panasonic FS-A1WX using a Carnivore 2 flash cartridge. Captured with a RetroTink 2X SCART. Final time determined by counting frames in Avidemux.
