This A7V Heavy Tank kill may seem like complete luck, but this is definitely not the first time I've gotten a kill like this (been playing since BF2 in 2005, and have made plenty of plays like this).

Q: So what's the secret?
A: Understand the effective range and trajectory characteristics (bullet drop) of your weapon and the approximate range/location of the enemy.
It also helps to know your environment, like this map layout on Suez.

After logging thousands of hours playing Battlefield (not just Battlefield 1), you get the feel of how a tank fires and about how high you need to aim to hit a certain target in the distance.

At the start of the clip, I got killed trying to do this with the field gun, which has a limited vertical aim arc.
But then I was able to get into the tank which has increased mobility and superior firing arcs.
I simply aimed in the general direction of the nearest objective, aimed high to make sure the shot would clear over the nearby buildings, and then sent a shell downrange.
We were able to get a kill by estimating the enemy's location/area of operation and then estimating the elevation needed to hit that target at that range.
Easier said then done, but practice makes perfect!
