How to CORRECTLY use the CALLIOPE in BFV
20URGENT NOTICE:
Please discontinue Calliope use which contradicts the instructions herein!
Too many nublets wasting these value reinforcement tanks.
These should be treated as artillery pieces rather than frontline armored vehicles.
In this video you will see some of the most effective maneuvers to employ with the Calliope.
As you can see, using the target reticle is CRITICAL.
1. Identify a target and determine range (e.g. 350m)
2. Adjust reticle to correct elevation given the range
(e.g. the very bottom tip of the reticle is about 350m; the bottom horizontal line is 300m; the second horizontal line from bottom is 250m; the next line is 200m; the remaining lines are for closer range so they do not exactly correspond to the 50m change increments)
3. Fire on target point, and sweep fire along x and y axis for area-of-affect impact
If you're taking these artillery pieces to the front, you're doing it wrong.
Only real exceptions are if you can't get a clear shot or aren't registering any hits after several salvos. Non-destructible buildings and terrain can necessitate a change in position/strategy on certain maps/objectives.
Also, if you're close to capping a point to finish the sector and it's safe to enter the objective area to assist, sometimes that's the best call to capture the sector and move on.
DEFENSIVE NOTE:
You're main threats will be:
1. Planes (the 2x 500lb bombs can kill in one hit)
2.V2 rockets and artillery strikes
3. Enemy tank, artillery/HACHI rocket, and stationary cannon fire
Position yourself around cover and/or terrain to mitigate incoming fire.
Give it a try, practice, and be extremely satisfied when you realize that you can often single-handedly turn the tide of a match for your team using these strategies.
