For whatever reason most apps are released with a blindingly white theme, and I dealt with it for quite a while with my GTK apps until I discovered Lxappearance, a graphical theme selector which provides you with a simple interface for selecting a new GTK theme, later in the video I also show the process of how to change your GTK theme straight from the config file if that's the method you would prefer. For me however, I think that when changing your theme it's probably much easier to do when you can see exactly the end result is going to look like from the start. Technically this program is from LXDE so it will pull in a few dependencies from that DE but it's not many.
