If you're using a laptop, and when you're typing you've bumped your touchpad and that throws off where you're trying to type. I know that I've had this happen before so now when I use Vim for long sessions I disable my touchpad but you could Xinput to disable any device, maybe you've got a webcam that you can't unplug but you want to make sure it can't be used or any number of other devices.
