Mac Mini SCAM on Ebay by eBuyer ?
Was this a Mac Mini scam by eBuyer on eBay? They said they had stock when I paid and ordered my Mac Mini from them on their eBay store. Then I was told a few days later that they did not have stock and I could wait longer for my Mac Mini but without any definite commitment to a delivery date, or I could get a refund.
As this Mac Mini was at the lowest price in the UK (not including student, NHS discounts etc.) there will have been a lot of these Mac Minis sold by eBuyer on their eBay shop. So that is a lot of money that eBuyer will have received for an item that they later claim is out of stock, in spite of the fact that it was advertised as a stock item at the point of sale.
Another question here, is why do eBay allow the likes of eBuyer to get away with this?
It seems to me that eBuyer want their cake and eat it twice. They take many orders for an item that is way cheaper than the competition is selling it for. So are holding a lot of money that are they making interest off of. They then tell their customers that they will have to wait at least 9 days longer than they expected. However, they do offer a refund, which is not a benevolent gesture, they have to do this due to UK law, eBay sales rules and also PayPal rules if bought with Paypal. So if anyone accepts the refund, eBuyer have not only made interest while holding the customer's payment but they will now make more money selling the same Mac Mini at a higher selling price.
Is this a scam?
Is this bait and switch?
Whatever it is, it is at the very least a very unethical way of doing business and eBuyer are completely abusing and taking advantage of the popularity of a tech item that is in very high demand. This is terrible behaviour by eBuyer.
Apple also need to do something about their resellers who employ these sales tactics and eBay should also be doing something about this.
