Why I'm returning my M4 Pro Mac Mini back to Apple
214The M4 Pro Mac Mini was simply not a big enough upgrade from my M1 Max MacBook Pro, which is why I am returning my M4 Pro Mac Mini back to apple for a refund.
The M4 Pro Mac Mini was always going to be a stop gap for me until Apple release the M4 Ultra Mac Studio, sometime next year. However, in my use of DaVinci Resolve Studio I wasn't feeling any appreciable benefit using the M4 Pro Mac Mini over my M1 Max MacBook Pro. In fact, during the final export, there was a negative affect with the M4 Pro Mac Mini, as the M1 Max was significantly faster than the M4 Pro due to its encoder engines.
So I have now bought the M4 Max MacBook, which is noticeably more powerful than the M1 Max MacBook Pro.
So yeah, I was wrong about the M4 Pro Mac Mini. However, these are things that you sometimes don't know until you've bought in to something and had time to use it and compare it against what you are upgrading from.
My advice. If you have any M1 Max in either the MacBook Pro or Mac Studio and you are happy with the performance. You may want to think carefully about upgrading it to any M4 series computer for certain specific processing tasks. Although, upgrading to M4 Max will definitely net you performance gains all-round. However, you may not even need that performance gain.
