Macross 2 (Medium Course, 2.92mil ALL) [2/2]
12Second part of the Macross 2 Medium Course replay, for stage 3 and the final extra stage. The original replay was recorded with WolfMAME 0.106 and the game has dodgy sound emulation as a result, but the current version of MAME has fixed the sound problems now.

The third stage of Medium Course is pretty tricky as the scoring target is quite high, and requires you to gain all of the red enemy bonuses in this stage, as well as accurate scoring via other means (surplus powerups, items and enemies). It is a manageable target, however. In this run I purposely used a bomb on the second large battleship (during the first part of the stage) in order to destroy it quickly, and again on the boss. Doing so, I saved enough time to surpass the scoring target for the stage.
The extra stage has an even higher scoring target, but is also achievable, as long as you quickly destroy all red enemies in this stage - you get a 100k bonus for doing so. Also, when fighting the boss, make sure you stall the boss out as long as possible, as you do not get to spend the remainder of your time allocation picking up extra points. You can get 50k from each octopus robot somehow, though I haven't quite figured out how to access this bonus yet (it has something to do with destroying the two bubbles they fire, I believe).
The highest score I've seen for Medium Course is about 3.15mil, so there's plenty of room for improvement in all stages.
