This is Mafia 1 with EAX and 3D audio in DSOAL [IRC_1037 tables]. This is a video people have probably wanted to see for a long time. The game itself became relevant again when it was given away for free on Steam at the start of September 2022. Well, I can't say you'll be that happy with what I made for you all.
I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get this video out, but I ran into a slew of technical problems, ranging from random crashing, missing textures, severe framerate drops (goodbye, 6700 XT) to not even being able to get OBS Studio to record without messing with display capture. I ran into some real awful real-life problems, too, including the most painful toothache of my life. Even the game itself is kind of bullshit, with a first mission that's entirely luck-based. I saw a comment on a walkthrough video that even said they got the game for free but couldn't even beat the first mission, so they were happy to see what happened next.
Since this game was taking up too much time that could be spent on less frustrating games, I basically said "fuck it" and recorded this easy early mission. It shows off the positional audio and EAX well enough. Didn't have to worry about the police busting me for speeding or anything. The positional audio honestly isn't great, the lack of occlusion is noticeable, and the EAX may or may not be too wet even with the OpenAL Soft update. KingSyphilis said he set it to -6 boost, but I kept it 0. See what the audience thinks. I didn't even get to show this off, but there's a massive bug if you walk into the bathroom that permanently distorts the reverb and volume until you reboot the game.
