[Mage] Daggerfall Unity [1] | Privateer's Hold | Introduction | Escape | The Mission
Welcome back to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, a role-playing game originally made by Bethesda for the MS Dos. For this playthrough, we are using the Unity remake of the game and a lot of mods to enhance the experience. The game involves navigating the sensitive political landscape of the Illiac Bay, a region of Tamriel on the fictional planet of Nirn comprising of the countries within the bay as well as the various fragmented powers surrounding it on both High Rock and Hammerfell. We have sent to the place on a mission by our Emperor Uriel Septim VII to investigate two curious instances, the shade of King Lysandus that roams the streets of Daggerfall at night and a letter that he sent to the Queen of Daggerfall a few years ago that never reached her. Despite being a dungeon crawler at heart, Daggerfall places a lot of emphasis upon the player's individual exploration as choosing one among the various political factions in the region as they navigate the complex mess that is the Illiac Bay. In this playthrough, we will be playing as a Spellcaster and will shift our focus towards the Mages' Guild and the Temple of Kynareath.
We are called into Emperor Uriel Spetim VII's throne room in the middle of the night to discuss a sensitive matter and a personal request. He wants us to sail for the Kingdom of Daggerfall in the morning to entertain two requests: one being the investigation into King Lysandus's ghost that has been plaguing the streets of the city at night, screaming vengeance and the second one being of lesser importance wherein we have to investigate a letter sent by Emperor Septim VII himself to the Queen of Daggerfall which has mysteriously disappeared.
As we set foot upon the ship and begin sailing to the Illiac Bay, days go by. However, a sudden storm appears, causing our ship to get wrecked and leaving us with nowhere to go. Luckily, we find a cave to hide in. Unluckily, the storm causes a mud-slide that seals us inside as soon as we had begun warming ourselves by our campfire. Luckily, we feel the draft of wind coming towards us and a light just faintly visible from the end of the tunnel. We decide to steel our nerves and trudge forward to find a way out or die trying. Hopefully, all the gold spent on our education as a mage before Emperor Uriel Spetim VII hired us under his wing will come of use in whatever challenges we face ahead.
We find a hidden door that leads into a structure of sorts and find ourselves face-to-face with a giant, voracious rat that is caught off guard and hungry for our meat. Slaying the pest, we move on to find a similar bat and then an imp. Thankfully, we chose to pack the Ebony Blade that the emperor gave us for we would not have been able to eliminate it otherwise. We moved ahead to find a Human of all things in this place. The person seemed like a Privateer and it suddenly dawned on me that we are perhaps in a Privateer's Hold.
We slay him and proceed ahead to find not one, but two enemies: one bat and one skeleton. Knowing ourselves to provide no contest to the latter, we let the bat and skeleton fight among themselves while we made a mad dash for the King's Throne in what seems to an abandoned castle turned into a Privateer's Hold and use the lever beside the chair to climb on top of the wall. From there, it was only a matter of following the draft of the wind which was now much stronger signifying that we were getting closer to the exit.
We finally found it with one Imp guarding the entrance. However, our blade was quick and true as the Imp found it's heart plunged by it in our very first strike itself and we found a way out.
Having escaped, we immediately pulled out our map to orient ourselves and find shelter. We decided to keep travelling until we reached Daggerfall, stopping only at inns for the night. We finally reached the city after 14 days of travel and found a nice shop to sell our haul from the dungeon and purchase some necessary upgrades. After that was done, we found a tavern for the night and delegated the task of asking about the letter and investigating King Lysandus's Shade to the Strangeblood of Tomorrow.
