0:00 One trope I really hate in video games is where they take away all your weapons right before the final boss fight. At least in this game they offer a story explanation for it: as we ride up in the elevator Piggsy attacks us with a chainsaw. We try to get away by climbing up through the escape hatch and in the process drop our guns. So we start our battle with Piggsy with no weapons.
0:21 The rotting upper level where Piggsy lives is like a labyrinth. There are lots of dead ends and shadows. There are 3 green weapons (glass shards and wooden spikes which are unique to this level) scattered around the moldy rooms. You will need all three.
You cannot defeat Piggsy by attacking him head on. You will be chopped to shreds quickly by his chainsaw if you do. You must attempt to execute him with the green weapons. Each time you sneak up and attempt to execute him he loses about a quarter of his health. When you sneak up on him and hold the execute button, you don’t need to wait, if you hold the button for 1 second or 10 seconds you will get the same cut scene (Piggsy shrugging you off and clobbering you as he runs away) and do the same amount of damage.
Piggsy is reputed to be able to find you in the shadows by smell even if you are not moving, but I have never observed this. Piggsy seems to be immune to lures- you either have to wait for him to wander by you or let him see you and run around a blind corner and dive into the shadows. Then when he walks by you can attack him. He comes out of dark at you without warning and it’s pretty scary. The only warning is that a split second before he comes running his health bar will appear, as shown here at 0:42.
7:40 After you stab Piggsy with the third green weapon, a cut scene triggers where he saws open the door to the stairwell and runs in there. Weaponless, you must follow him. Grab the brick in the hallway as you head up the ramp. Piggsy will be cowering in the corner. When you approach him he will scream and begin to chase you. Let him follow you up the stairs and stand behind the fenced hole in the stairwell. You will get a cut-scene where the fencing almost breaks, and he runs off again. Go back down to where he was cowering and ping him in the head with the brick to get him to chase you again. This time when you lure him onto the fencing, it will end the fight with him for good.
9:53 See you at the party Richter!!!!”
10:24 Now you get the chainsaw!!!! Use it to try and cut into Starkweather’s office. A cut-scene will trigger where he sends his last 5 Cerberus guards after you. You must rush back in to the run-down attic area or be shot.
Use the saw to stalk the 3 guards who chase you. Split them up and execute them. You can execute with the saw without it being turned on; You only need to rev it up when attacking someone head on with it.
Sometimes the 4th guard will follow the other 3 after you as well, other times he will stay by with the 5th guard, who never leaves his post. After you take out the guards you can take their assault rifles and take out those 2 guys. Then you just need to go get the saw again and cut into the office door.
13:44 Starkweather has a gun, but will try to run from you most of the time. He busts out some pretty funny dialogue, the more you will hear the longer you are there. He can be executed or you can just run and chainsaw him head on- either way you get a cut-scene and he gets his just desserts.
15:30 Next we get a cut-scene where the journalist describes the breaking of the valiant video ring and Starkweather’s death. She doesn't mention us.
What’s next for Cash? We never find out. Apparently he disappears off into the night. Manhunt 2 (similar to Grand Theft Auto sequels, boooo) has nothing to do with the characters in the first game, the only things it has in common with the first one is the mechanic of executing people and the overall grim, nihilistic tone.
16:39 Credits role.
20:45 Some shots of deleted characters and bonus artwork I unlocked. This was an absolute crap play through for me, but I think I did OK for the first time I played in 15 years.
One more chapter on the bonus scenes, which are a lot of fun, and that’s a wrap on my playthrough!
