Two weeks after former, Manjaro has just announced a new stable version of its operating system. We are talking about a project that uses the development model known as Rolling Release, so talking about versions is not as clear as in other distributions such as Ubuntu or Fedora. When, like now, they announce a new stable version, what arrives are new packages, many, but Manjaro 21.0.5, the sixth version of Ornara, will still not use GNOME 40.

Right now, the launch is official, but it hasn't reached all teams yet. Personally, I still do not see any updates neither in Pamac (Add / Remove software) nor with the command sudo pacman -Syu, and Manjaro 21.0.5 does not appear in the project download page.

Highlights of Manjaro 21.0.5
They have updated most of their kernels, the most current stable being Linux 5.12.2.
NVIDIA has been updated to 460.80.
They have added the Plasma mobile apps, but as an option.
Most of the applications (GNOME Apps) have been updated to GNOME 40.1. The Shell remains at 3.38.
Maui apps are up to 1.2.2.
Systemd 247.7.
Firefox 88.0.1 and Thunderbird 78.10.1.
LibreOffice 7.1.3.
Frameworks 5.82 and Plasma 5.21.5 in the KDE edition, among other KDE-git packages.
Other updates like the newest ones to python and hasell.

Manjaro is officially available in XFCE (the main one), KDE and GNOME versions. A new stable version means two things: as we have mentioned, existing users will receive the packages in the next few hours. On the other hand, they will soon announce the launch of the new ISO, and those are the ones that will bear the name of Manjaro 21.0.5. At the moment, we just have to have a little more patience, although I fear that the GNOME editions are running out. Everything is for stability.

About ::

Manjaro Linux is a fast, user-friendly, desktop-oriented operating system based on Arch Linux. Key features include intuitive installation process, automatic hardware detection, stable rolling-release model, ability to install multiple kernels, special Bash scripts for managing graphics drivers and extensive desktop configurability. Manjaro Linux offers Xfce as the core desktop options, as well as KDE, GNOME and a minimalist Net edition for more advanced users. Community-supported desktop flavours are also available.

Philip Müller has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 21.0, a significant update of the project's desktop-oriented, rolling-release distribution featuring the GNOME, KDE and Xfce desktops. This release updates the desktops to GNOME 3.38, KDE 2.21 and Xfce 4.16: "With our Xfce edition, we now have Xfce 4.16. The window manager received lots of updates and improvements again in the area of compositing and GLX. Support for fractional scaling was added to the display dialog, along with highlighting the preferred mode of a display with an asterisk and adding aspect ratios next to resolutions. The settings manager has improved search and filter capabilities. Thunar file manager received a boatload of fixes and quite a few notable features, including pause for copy/move operations, support for queued file transfer, remembering view settings per directory and support for transparency in GTK themes. Linux kernel 5.10 LTS is used for this release.
