12In the previous Mario Kart 8 Deluxe video, I showed the Rosalina Mii Racing Suit to show that I have finally gotten ahold of the most in-demand, hardest-to-obtain Smash Bros. amiibo (though I think for amiibo, the hardest one to find now is one of the Links...Majora's Mask, I think).
I forgot that, between that video and the one before it, I had unlocked the Gold Kart (get at least 1 star in every cup in Grand Prix at Mirror difficulty) and the Gold Tires (beat every staff ghost at 150cc). The latter has become substantially harder than in Mario Kart 8, because not only are there 16 more ghosts to beat, but they're also all faster. Good thing I didn't have to beat them in 200cc. Some of those ghosts are near impossible. And I don't like Time Trials to begin with anyway.
And for the record, I ended this session with about 4,250 Coins, if you're tracking my progress towards the Golden Glider.

Here, I'm using Lakitu, but what I wanted to show is the Gold Kart. Those of you who followed me in Mario Kart 8 would already know what it looks like, but this is partially to show that I have unlocked it. And I picked this race to show that you are never really safe, even in 1st, which is something that keeps me coming back to this game.

Between this race and the last one, you can see that Mason is a lot of trouble for me. Very difficult to pass ahead of, and also very difficult to shake off if you do. Even more so in a course like this, where positions get shaken up a lot due to how easy it is.

Of course, just as I can lose a lot of positions in the blink of an eye, I can gain a lot of them too. But it's not quite as common as there isn't some "gain a lot of positions" mechanic as there are lots of "lose a lot of positions" mechanic. I didn't expect the person in the lead to fall off in the final lap though. That was a surprise. Or was that lag?

And this one has no gliding either...bah! I guess I'll have to try again in another video. (Well, this stage DOES have a gliding ramp, but it's offroad and I didn't use it in this race.)
