Developers are a queer bunch when it comes to marketing. They have developed an amazing smell for 'corporatey' marketing techniques and guess what - they don't like it. In this presentation we'll turn things upside down - you'll see what a developer can do when he decides to do marketing. You'll be surprised.

It had been clear to me for some time that classical marketing tricks were starting to get boring and were getting developers' attention less and less. Show them this though and they instantly like you. Create a feeling of "one of us" with developers and you have their heart. Ask them a question and you have their attention. Our numbers are great and show we're doing this right.

I lead the @EclipseJavaIDE Twitter account for a couple of years know and I've built an inventory of sharp tools to do IDE marketing right. I also am the Marketing Coordinator on the Eclipse Planning Council. By trade and education I'm an engineer though so I'm not your usual (boring) marketing person.

All that I know, all I have discovered (both the easy and hard way) I'm willing to share and to talk about. Also I have my 2.0 initiative ready to supplement my Twitter adventure with something even bigger and far reaching - we'll talk about that one too.

When you walk out of this talk you'll be guaranteed to have a better understanding on how to pierce the armor of developer apathy towards classical marketing and improve your chances to be heard by them.
