The recent trend of cloud-native computing and microservices architectures have taken developers by the storm. But what if we want to move our services closer to devices and users that generate and use data? Enter the Edge computing, trying to extend cloud-native computing beyond the centralized data centers. In this session, we'll try to get you interested in this topic, talking about why and how you can start introducing Edge computing in your IoT projects.

The session will summarize all the aspects of Edge computing, its current state and the future trends. We'll start by introducing use cases that require this new type of architecture. Next, we'll go into the challenges you'll meet when you go beyond your typical cloud infrastructure. Finally, we'll dig into the current state of Edge development in the open source world. In that context we'll explore where existing Eclipse IoT projects fit in, how they can be used together in an edge-enabled software stack, and discuss possible future developments.

Speakers:
Dejan Bosanac (Red Hat, Inc.)
Kilton Hopkins (Edgeworx, Inc.)
