EGit Essentials, Tips and Tricks
EGit is an Eclipse team provider for Git and provides a great Git integration. EGit enables Eclipse users to use Git source control for their projects and easily perform Git operations from within the Eclipse IDE. It also provides a lot of powerful and useful features that allow users to perform many advanced Git operations with ease right from the UI without the need to resort to command line.
In this session, I’ll show a demo of some of the features of EGit in detail that are very essential in every developer’s day to day work. This will provide a good jump start to beginners and a deep dive for existing users.
Some of the essential features I’ll cover in the demo include:
1. Push and Pull configuration
2. Commit, Amend, Revert, Stash
3. Working with branches
4. Creating a patch
5. Inspect change history in History view
In addition to the commonly used features, EGit provides a lot of advanced features which are not known to many users. I’ll highlight some of these advanced features in the session. For example:
1. Rebase and resolve merge conflicts
2. Interactive Rebase
3. Synchronise workspace
4. Git Reflog
5. Search in Git history
In addition to showcasing the features, I’ll also share several useful tips and tricks that’ll be beneficial to the users (both expert and novice) in their daily work.
