Marvel What If Episode 8 Trailer Breakdown + What If Ultron Won Title Explained & Hawkeye Ronin?!
41We have the official trailer and title for Marvel What If Episode 8 and it’s got easter eggs and details you missed, so stay with me.
So, let’s talk about the title, it’s very simple: What If Ultron Won - and we have seen the images through the apocalyptic black widow trailer shots of what that world now looks like - And how he did that began with the Avengers failing to stop Ultron from downloading himself into Vision and given Hawkeye’s line of, “We’ve all lost so much” I believe Hawkeye now leads the rest of what’s left of the planet, in this underground area where they are looking at the nuke map, and where later Ultron finally finds them. Given that Black Widow and Hawkeye are the only ones fighting here, I can see them being the only two Avengers left standing for now.
But, with Hawkeye, you can see that he has donned his Ronin costume earlier than Endgame, given that most of the planet has been wiped out; and most likely his family is dead too, so it lines up.
Hawkeye’s death in this episode might’ve been spoiled a bit though because check out this shot of Black Widow with Hawkeye’s bow, likely during the pair’s final stand against Ultron Vision
Who now has the stones of which we can see him acquire in this shot here, it almost looks like Ultron has grabbed the stones all in one cluster, like the stones were already collected before, my guess is that he went multiverse hopping somehow, and used the mind stone to track down the rest of the infinity stones, just like how Thanos could in Infinity War, by educated guess though is that he went to a universe where the stones are all collected already and Ultron cuts of the gauntlet, similar to how he chopped off Klaue’s arm in Age Of Ultron and that’s how he collects them all at once

You can see that Ultron does have access to the nukes of the world, you’ll note that Tony and Bruce when programming Ultron, the one thing they made sure Ultron never had was access to nukes. But, now that he has the stones and not even that, Ultron is strong enough now to just override his directives.
Just an easter egg here, this shot of Ultron waking up in the Vision body is similar to the white vision waking up at the end of episode 8 of WandaVision, or episode 7 I think, anyway, little WandaVision easter eggs for you; it’s especially fitting since we all thought that it was going to be Ultron who was white Vision, but I guess not.
Now, since this is the second last episode in the series, you can bet that it will be further developing the story of the multiversal heroes finale event that has been teased for a while now. With that, I really hope that these last two episodes are especially long, I’m talking at least 50 minutes to an hour-long, because there is too much story to try and cover in 30 minutes, especially when you are dealing with all the multiversal heroes, Ultron, and the infinity stones, and more too! I really hope Marvel delivers on that, but maintain the quick pacing and great action too, and not cheaping out on that.
