Massive Graphics Overhaul for Last Epoch in Patch 0.7.7
273Almost a year ago, Last Epoch launched into Early Access and I bought the game pretty much straight away, in April. During the development of the game, using community feedback, the developers focused mostly on gameplay features and balancing. From a core gameplay loop perspective, Last Epoch has always been in good shape, even at the very start.
I feel most of the changes that were implemented were centred around gameplay, creating the world or Eterra and quite a bit of balancing too. Where other developers maybe focus on graphical fidelity, instead of creating a good core framework, Eleventh Hour Games chose not to do this.
The result has been however, as this is an indie studio, that other parts of the game haven’t been polished. Primarily performance and the looks of the game. The looks, in a broad perspective. Not only the graphics, which received a fair bit of criticism, but also the animations, the skills and the fact you don’t see the armor you are equipping.
As the core features of Last Epoch have formed a very solid foundation to build on, we’ve seen more and more changes over the last couple of months that deal with other matters. Recently, in 0.7.6, a big performance patch dropped which fixed most of the issues I personally had. I know this isn’t true for everyone, but they’re at least on the right track when it comes to performance.
And now, in 0.7.7, we’re seeing some graphical updates planned.
